The most poorly thought-out, poorly edited book I've ever finished.The idea is almost irresistible: a dangerous game with impossible rewards that you can only win by recognizing hidden patterns in the world and then following them to other hidden pattern until you die or win. Reading the reviews, I envisioned a strange marriage of "Ready Player One" and "Foucault's Pendulum," and that sounded great. Sadly, that is not this book (but I'd like someone to write it).Rabbits is essentially "one hell of series of events" without any real characterization and without any sinews linking together the bones of the story. There's no real plot, no real story, and no resolution of all the narrative strands that Mr. Miles sprayed all over the novel like silly string across the floor.All this would be bad enough, but the editing is also horrific. If you like the construction "some kind of" (as in "some kind of vegan bacon"), this is the book for you. The phrase is often used multiple times on a single page and always in circumstances where it is entirely unnecessary. It happens so often that I thought for a while it must be "some kind of clue" about what was happening in the novel. Silly me. It's just bad editing.Skip this one. Let me just say this - buy the physical book. Embedded through the book are clever clues and puzzles that mirror the story being told. There’s a whole other world the book unlocks if you pay attention and follow the actual rabbit trail coded in the book. It’s amazing.
